I have always believed that being a vegan might be easier in big cities. I spent last weekend in New York City with my uncle and a friend of his, it was amazing. I love big cities ( I was raised in a big city back in Colombia) there is always something new to do, new things to see and particularly in NYC, there are all kinds of people so you don’t forget how different and diverse this country is.
Going back to the food, the first night we went out to see Madison Square Garden at night and it looked beautiful, finding a place for me to eat was pretty hard. We got into this Italian restaurant and it was a buffet style dining. I grabbed three things that they had that were vegan, mostly vegetables and well, that does not really makes me feel satisfied at all but the next day I thought it would be better and guess what? It was.
We woke up really early in the morning, we started walking and exploring the beautiful places in NYC. I have to admit that I am not used to that much chaos but I loved it, art and food were everywhere. I love Indian food and we could find it everywhere and as you might know they have lots of vegan options. They were selling falafel, garbanzo beans, rice etc. Then we went to this Japanese restaurant and yes, it was confusing for the waiter but he managed to showed me all of the options I could have and although I did eat the best rice I’ve ever tried in my life, the tofu soup came with eggs as the waiter thought I was some sort of vegetarian. I also ate some seaweed and that was it.
My point is that wherever you go nowadays people are beginning to understand what eating vegan or having a plant based diet actually is. They are getting more familiar with it and that’s great. I don’t want to say that people are starting to understand that being a vegan is the right thing to do because every one of us can make different choices and that’s completely fine, but I can say that people are making healthier and more compassionate choices for themselves and for the environment, because if they did not I would not be going to a restaurant where people can know what I am ordering without being shocked that it doesn’t have animal products.
Next week I’m going to be in Cuba, let’s see how it goes being a vegan over there! Let me know if you would like to see a vlog. Bye guys!!!!!!!
