I think that people are afraid of being told what is going on, when you tell somebody to not eat animals they feel attacked and they mark you as a crazy person, because usually people use hateful speech or get pushy and maybe violent when telling others about eating animals. Activists many times do not give actual facts that can touch your heart and also worry you about your future, because if you really think about it you cannot give a message in the same way to everyone. Not everybody listens or understands under the same terms. This essay is intended to give people health, sustainability, environmental and last but not least, compassionate reasons why you should not support the animal agriculture business.

Someday I want to be able to have kids with my husband and be able to leave them a habitable place. I want to be able to bring them to the Amazon and let them see the beauty of life before it gets completely destroyed by the agriculture industry. So far 20% of the Amazon has been destroyed and studies from National Geographic are showing that in the next two decades another 20%  is going to disappear due to cattle raising for the high demand of Dairy products and meat (we also see that with pigs and chickens, but the main culprit is cattle).  Being able to show future generations the wax palm and the wide spectrum of wild life Colombia and Brazil have is a big dream of mine, but sadly the wax palm is almost gone for the same agricultural reasons. We can address cocoa, palm oil and irresponsible growing of soy beans as huge factors too.

People should be more aware about global warming, why it is happening, and stop thinking that cars are the main reason because that is simply not true. I would like to extend an invitation to everyone to see and look what is causing natural disasters to be maybe twice as strong as they should be, because even though it is hurricane season and we should be expecting these disasters to happen, they should not be category 5 in the past 20 years. Simply put, more moisture in the atmosphere means the intensity of a hurricane is going to increase, and the amount of moisture in the air increases proportional to temperature which is rising due to climate change.

Then we can move to Indonesia where 80% of their forest has been destroyed because of unethical Palm Oil production. In case you did not know how this palm oil production works, it is basically causing controlled forest fires so it is cheaper to extract. These practices have led to the danger of the extinction of species like Bengals Tigers and  Orangutans, who fall from the trees on fire with 3rd degree burns all over their bodies and many times they die. All of those reasons were just a portion of what made me changed my mind about my food and life choices, what I buy, what I eat, what I wear and what I believe in.

I am going to share my story with you, I went vegan after I started educating myself about animal cruelty and the amount of water and food I could save by changing to a plant based diet, without knowing many of the other effects of animal agriculture, animal traffic and palm oil have over the earth.  1 pound of beef is equal to 1,800 gallons of water and the methane produced by one cow is 23 times more powerful than an equal amount of carbon dioxide in terms of being a greenhouse gas. This makes it the number one reason for global warming at 40% followed by Fossil Fuels at 29.6% which causes us to think about what we are really doing and if it is worth it for a little bit of flavor.  Learning all of that just made my beliefs stronger and with that I lost 32 pounds, my cholesterol went down, my colon started working properly and my acne has improved even though it is hormonal (dairy products are really high in hormones).

I believe I am buying a ticket with a low chance to get cancer, heart diseases, obesity and diabetes within many others; with all of that I would think that the best way to make people reconsider their life choices is by science, but sadly, some people do not care about it at all, they just want to read about pop culture. Don’t get me wrong, I like that I like  make up, YouTube videos, music and all of the fun stuff that can help us forget about the things we want to ignore sometimes, but I also believe that if we have a voice we should use it and make the loudest movement we can create and as we have the time to read about entertainment, we should also have the time to find and understand how our government and the world is working right now and what are we going to leave for the younger ones once we are gone.
