Joe has been a vegan for a couple of weeks now and nobody seems to care, it might be because he is always mentioning the fact that he is not doing it for the animals but he is doing it because of his health (there is nothing wrong with that). There is something that really bothers me about that and it is that people have Satanized the word vegan when you bring up that you are doing it for the earth and for the animals. I’ve even heard people say that animals were created by God with the only purpose of being our food and I believe that is a really sad, selfish, and hateful belief, what kind of God would put creatures with a nervous system here for our enjoyment? ….
So why do you think I am being treated different for my reasoning? Watching many documentaries changed my perception of life, talking to people and trying to explain to them the benefits of being a vegan and learning not to show them explicit content because whether we like it or not, not everybody is ready to see that. Most people are ready to listen to you with a compassionate speech about why we made that choice. I have been trying to make people see life from different perspective even if I have to talk just about health because if somebody makes the decision based on just that reason, they will learn about the other things that come with the animal agriculture around the world on the rest of their journey…Of course, there are so many vegans out there that are ass**** and I won’t discuss that, they are not good for the cause and they are hurting it and sadly, people think that those people are the reflection of all of us because they are the loudest ones when that is not the truth. What if the nice ones would be the louder ones? How would that go? I really don’t know… I have been trying to be the nice one and people just make fun of me every time they see me eating vegan and that gets annoying to the point that I have started to stop talking about it and just not tell people why I do not eat animal products, why every time I go to a beauty store I do not buy those big brands that sell in China, why I clean with vinegar instead of Windex. The whole thing just bothers me and I am tired of it. On the other hand, there is Joe who tells everyone he is doing it because he wants his body to get clean and the earth is getting fucked. Nobody cares, nobody really bothers him and that is because he is not bringing animals into the game…It might be that people are not ready to understand that animals are living beings and they also deserve the opportunity to live and die in the wild, not in a slaughter house.
Being vegan is such a stigma, but at the same time people are doing it for many reasons even if it’s for pure health and they want to call themselves plant based that is enough for me as a start. I get tired of people being mean or making mean jokes because I decided to not eat meat, like it is the weirdest thing in the world, like it is so hard and disgusting when the real truth is that I just have to pick up some fresh food and bring it to my table, I do not have to put my hands into blood and over cook it just for the only purpose of not getting sick with bacteria. My choices are being made out of compassion and smart decisions towards the earth, the animals, and me. My husband’s are being made for his health and the earth and that is ok.

Very interesting read. I’d like to know more about what you think is better; people who practice a vegan lifestyle vs. people who eat meat that they raise themselves in a non-cruel environment (as it seems the cruelty part is most important to you)?
